David Kerkove grew up on a farm near South English, Iowa, and he attended the English River Church of the Brethren from shortly after his birth until he left for college. David graduated from English Valleys High School in 1989. David spent his freshman year at the University of Iowa (pre-optometry major), and he finished his college degree at McPherson College after he felt called by God to the ministry in the fall of his freshman year.

While at McPherson College,  David met Tammy Hull from Quenemo, Kansas, and they were united in marriage on June 19, 1993.   After Tammy received her elementary education degree at McPherson College in 1995, David and Tammy spent a year in New Windsor, Maryland serving Christ and neighbor through Brethren Volunteer Service. David entered Bethany Theological Seminary in Richmond, Indiana, in the fall of 1996 and received his Master’s of Divinity degree in the spring of 1999.

David then served as pastor of the Plymouth Church of the Brethren in northern Indiana for 71⁄2 years before he served as pastor of the Panther Creek Church of the Brethren in central Iowa for 113⁄4 years. David began serving as pastor of the South Waterloo Church of the Brethren on October 1, 2018.

David and Tammy welcomed their oldest son, Caleb Van, into the world on April 15, 2006.  Their youngest son, Joshua Evin, was born on October 10, 2008. Their daughter, Hannah Lynne, died on January 28, 2012, just ten days before her scheduled delivery date.

David’s favorite scripture passages include Micah 6:6-8, Matthew 20:1-16, Romans 8:31-39, and Philippians 4:4-7. David’s favorite hymns include “Will You Let Me Be Your Servant”, “Here I Am, Lord”, and “In the Bulb, There Is a Flower”. David enjoys reading, walking, playing disc golf, spending time with family and friends, and laughing.
